BYE-BYE TORONTO! HOLA, BARCELONA!

SO, if you’ve been following my stories, you know that after my vacation I haven’t returned to Toronto! Instead, my Fiancé and I are in Barcelona! Yep, we've relocated to Spain! (and yes, this is my first time here!)

WHY did we move, you ask? Well, My fiancé R recently decided to go back to school for his MBA, and after much contemplation decided to pursue it in Europe! Barcelona was calling at us—so that’s why we’re here for the next 19 months of our lives! Now, where can I find Messi? ;)

WHAT will I be doing here- surely I’m not just going to be travelling Europe while my poor R hustles it out in class? Nope, I’ll be right here with him supporting him through it- and then on the weekends jetting off to tick some cities off my travel list ;) I’ll be working remotely from Barcelona – all while getting to explore this beautiful city alongside R!

Struggles thus far?

1. The PACKING. So over the years, I’ve literally moved like 9 times-ask any of my best friends and they’ll say we’re seriously qualified as movers (If all else fails, we know we’ve got a backup, eh girls?) But, this one was a big one! It’s not a dorm room, or another apartment, or another city- it’s literally to another continent! And yes, I’ve absolutely done that before too (when I moved from Tanzania to Toronto)- but at that point in time I didn’t have nearly half as many things as I have now!

So how do you fit 2.5 closet spaces worth of clothes into two suitcases - well you don’t silly! I have some amazing friends who are totally acting as parents to some of my belongings while I’m gone, and the rest – well lets just say it was time to spring clean anyways and donating clothes is always a good idea when you think your life is over flowing – minimalism is key.  I think I will definitely be sticking to this rule from now on.  Nevertheless, I’ve had the PURGE of the century! I ended up packing each suitcase under 23 kilos, right under the airline baggage requirement! Impressed? – I sure was! Who knew I had it in me!! The secret though - I only kept a handful of outfits meant for 18°C + weather!

2. Getting 2 suitcases to Barcelona when you have vacation planned just before! Luckily, this wasn’t THAT much of a struggle because R has some amazing family in Europe who stored some of our things for us while on vacation! And of course if you’ve seen my recent rants on my insta-stories, you know we didn’t have the best experience with the airline we were using to get to Barcelona so that was a little bit of a hiccup, other than that it went okay!

What I'm going to miss the most from my life in Toronto are the incredibly amazing people I had in it. I have always believed that the connections you have to a city are only because of the amazing memories you've created in it with the people closest to you. I'd lived in Toronto for over 12 years in which I met the most amazing people, made the best of friends, created lifelong memories that I will cherish forever! But as you and I both know, the world is a much smaller place now, and your friends and family are just one flight, one call, one email, one text, one face-time call away!!

As you can see (and been seeing on my insta-stories), I've already started exploring Barcelona, and so far loving the city! Have any suggestions on things to do in Barcelona - send them over!

I am extremely excited to be starting this new adventure alongside my fiancé and can’t wait to start exploring more of Spain and the rest of Europe over my weekend trips! Oh and hopefully become fluent in Spanish during my time here - so join me on my journey and stay tuned!!

Have any questions on the move? Are you planning to make any big continental moves anytime soon? Want to know how you can move to Spain for a year? – Send over any questions you may have!

Adios –for now!
